“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT)
Devotion
David’s mighty men didn’t start as warriors. They started as broken, distressed, and discouraged people who simply showed up in the cave with him (1 Samuel 22:1–2). Their transformation didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen in isolation. It happened because they were present.
Every tree only grows as strong as its roots are deep. In the same way, spiritual growth doesn’t happen by accident; it requires being rooted in Christ. Roots provide stability, nourishment, and strength in storms. Without them, even the tallest tree will eventually topple.
But roots also need the right soil. That’s why God places us in His church, His family, His network. Alone, we can sprout for a season, but together we grow stronger, healthier, and more fruitful. Staying rooted in Christ and connected to His people is the foundation for growth that lasts.
Reflection
How has community helped strengthen your faith when life’s storms hit?
What step could you take this week to deepen your roots in Jesus?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me to grow in You. Help my roots go deep and not into shallow distractions, but into Your truth. Plant me firmly in Christ and in the community You’ve given me, so I can stand strong and bear fruit for Your glory. Amen.
